First 2023 meeting of the Disputed Minors Task Force

The Directorate General for Italians Abroad chaired the first 2023 meeting of the Disputed Minors Task Force at the Farnesina today. This meeting, which was attended as usual senior officials from the Ministries of Internal Affairs and Justice, provided an opportunity to take stock of the situations of minors involved in the conflict in Ukraine.

The phenomenon of disputed minors shows no signs of abating. Until last year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs handled 548 cases, compared to 516 in 2021. Europe is the region most affected by minors and international abduction cases (316 cases handled in 2022), followed by the Americas (95), Mediterranean and Middle East (76), Asia (43) and Africa (18).
