Italian Cooperation flights to Libya to provide humanitarian aid to civilians

As the humanitarian crisis caused by the heavy flooding in eastern Libya continues, a humanitarian mission of the Italian Cooperation landed today in Benghazi on the orders of Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Edmondo Cirielli.

The cargo departed this morning from the UN Humanitarian Response Depot in Brindisi, comprising 22 tonnes of supplies intended to assist the population (blankets, electricity generators and other equipment).

The shipment is one of several initiatives undertaken by the Italian Government to meet the needs of the thousands of people who, particularly in Derna and the surrounding areas, are still bearing the brunt of the devastating floods.
