The first 2024 meeting of the Disputed Minors Task Force was held today, chaired by the Farnesina Protection Unit, with the participation of officials from the Ministries of the Interior and Justice. The working group addressed some of the currently most complex cases, with a focus on untraceable minors, identifying the most effective tools, strategies, and modes of intervention. Great appreciation was also expressed for the important results achieved in recent months, stemming from the excellent joint work of the Administrations involved.
The scale of the phenomenon of contested minors is still very worrying. To date the Ministry of Foreign Affairs follows 434 cases, in coordination with the other competent institutions.
Active since 2009, the Disputed Minors Task Force became formally operational in 2013, with the ratification of an inter-ministerial Memorandum of Understanding aimed at ensuring a coordinated governmental action and making it more effective in terms of technical and operational aspects.
