Sports diplomacy. Minister Tajani inaugurates an exhibition dedicated to the Italian national football team at the Farnesina together with the top management of the FIGC

The Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, will open tomorrow at the Farnesina the presentation event of the exhibition “Sfumature di Azzurro”, organised and curated by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) together with the Football Museum of Coverciano.

The presentation will focus on sports diplomacy as a tool for promoting Italy abroad, on the role of the national football team and its successes which, through the memorabilia and iconic objects exceptionally exhibited at the Farnesina, also retrace moments in the history of our country.

With an impact on GDP of over EUR 11.1 billion and 126,000 jobs, football is the most important sport in Italy. Through it and with a dense network of initiatives carried out by the Foreign Ministry and its 309 offices abroad, the story of the excellences, districts and Italian industries in the sector are told, in order to promote knowledge of Italy, contribute to strategic positioning and increase Italy’s attractiveness.

The Italian national teams and Italian football as a whole represent an excellence of Made in Italy in the world and an extraordinary tool for unity and sharing. The collaboration between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the FIGC will contribute to the promotion of Italy’s image and to the strengthening of the feeling of community that affects millions of Italians abroad.

In addition to the President of the FIGC Gabriele Gravina, the President of the Football Museum of Coverciano Matteo Marani, the Technical Commissioner of the National Team Luciano Spalletti and the Head of Delegation of the men’s national team Gianluigi Buffon will also speak at the event, in the presence of representatives of the EU and G7 Embassies accredited in Rome, entities involved in sport, trade associations, athletes, as well as youth, represented by two classes of middle school students.
