Update on compatriots in Cuba

The Italian Ambassador to Havana, Roberto Vellano, is on his way to Cienfuegos, where the group of compatriots belonging to a holiday group organised by the tour operator Avventure nel Mondo and involved in yesterday’s car accident, is being held. Among them, one compatriot, Patrizia Crisolini Malatesta, died, while the others were immediately transported to the Surgical Clinical Hospital in Cienfuegos. Three of them are in intensive care, but all are in stable condition. The minibus ran off the road on a section of the national highway near the Cuban municipality of Aguada de Pasajeros. The Italian Embassy in Havana continues to be in constant contact with the medical staff, the tour operator and the families of the compatriots involved.
