The Joint Committee for Development Cooperation, which convened this morning under the chairmanship of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, and Deputy Minister Edmondo Cirielli, has approved the establishment of a €40 million fund for projects implemented by Italian Regions in countries receiving development aid from Italy.
Presenting the initiative, Minister Tajani emphasised the teamwork that underpins all of Italy’s development cooperation efforts, acknowledging the invaluable contribution of the Regions in advancing the country’s foreign policy objectives in such a crucial sector. Indeed, territorial partnerships play a significant role in achieving the goals of the 2030 Agenda, leveraging their ability to mobilise local actors.
The fund, included among the initiatives approved in the 2025 development cooperation programme, aims to capitalise on Italy’s expertise in fostering networks between public and private entities across the country, ensuring greater involvement of local authorities. This initiative strengthens the role of the Regions at the international level as well, within projects aimed at promoting socio-economic development and improving access to basic services.
