Minister Tajani’s Mission to Washington for the Critical Minerals Meeting

Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani will be in Washington tomorrow, February 4, to participate in the Ministerial Meeting on Critical Minerals convened by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who will open the meeting together with US Vice President J.D. Vance. The event will also provide the opportunity for a renewed exchange of views between Minister Tajani and Secretary of State Rubio on key international issues.

The meeting, which brings together representatives from many European and non-European countries, will provide the United States with an opportunity to present the reconfigured Mineral Security Partnership, which will be turned into a multilateral initiative aimed at promoting cooperation on the extraction, processing, recycling, and resilience of critical mineral supply chains, and to initiate a dialogue on investment prospects and possible joint projects.

The meeting is part of a broader international discussion on strategic supply chains and economic cooperation in the sector. Minister Tajani will speak at the first session and participate in the proceedings to represent Italy’s position. As Europe’s second-largest manufacturing company and the world’s fourth-largest exporter, Italy has long supported the need to strengthen the security and reliability of value chains. The Foreign Minister will reaffirm the strategic importance of transatlantic collaboration and close coordination with European partners – starting with Germany, as agreed between Minister Tajani and his counterpart Wadephul during the Italy-Germany Summit on January 23 – for new industrial policies to support critical raw material supply chains.

During his visit to Washington, the Minister will also meet with the Italian-American community to launch a charitable initiative for the Southern Italian regions hit by cyclone Harry. Minister Tajani will also meet with a distinguished group of Italian entrepreneurs operating in the United States.
