On the occasion of the Week of the Italian Language in the World, an artistic residency concert was held at the Italian Cultural Institute in Algiers, as a result of the encounter between Manuel Caliumi (alto saxophone), saxophonist Arezki ‘Aki’ Bouzid and percussionist Abdelhakim Aït Aïssa.
This unusual line-up, consisting of two saxophones and a rhythm instrument, celebrated the musical dialogue between Algeria and Italy. Each musician had complete freedom to intertwine melodies and timbres in a cross-cultural sound journey, constantly balancing radical improvisation and composition, jazz language and North African rhythms.
A second concert date was proposed at Dar Abd El Latif, the home of Manuel Caliumi’s residence.
