The call for applications for the 2026 “AIR – Artists in Residency” project, conceived and promoted by Italian Jazz Musicians (MIDJ) with financial support from the Italian Society of Authors and Publishers (SIAE), has been published. The project aims to create a network of artistic residencies in collaboration with Italian Cultural Institutes, Embassies, and Consulates in Europe and around the world, reserved for young and talented jazz musicians aged between 18 and 40. The project’s goal is to encourage the compositional activity of the participating musicians, with the artistic residencies representing a tremendous stimulus for the creation of new and original repertoire. The locations involved are Addis Ababa, Bucharest, Mexico City, Copenhagen, Edinburgh, Madrid, Shanghai, Stockholm, Tirana, and Warsaw.

During the four-week residency, the artist will have the opportunity to engage with the international jazz scene, initiating a fruitful process of exchange and cross-fertilization. The AIR Project, now in its fifth edition, is a moment of significant personal and professional growth for the musicians involved, thanks both to contacts and exchanges with local artists and the sharing of experiences with other artists in residency. Italian Cultural Institutes, Embassies, and Consulates will provide hospitality for a free four-week stay between January and October 2027.

Applications shall be received by 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, and will be reviewed by five Committees, each composed of two renowned figures in the national jazz scene and a member of the Board of Directors.
