Undersecretary Scalfarotto – talks with English and French Ambassadors

This morning, Undersecretary Ivan Scalfarotto met British Ambassador Jill Morris to discuss the letter that Italians living in the UK have sent to Prime Minister Johnson and our Government’s concern for our fellow countrymen, fearing that the rules in force in the kingdom are not sufficient to guarantee their safety.

The Ambassador has reassured the Undersecretary that her Government is paying the utmost attention to the measures taken in Italy to slow down the spread of the virus and the possibility that new measures will soon be taken by them as well. They have agreed to remain in daily contact to monitor the situation.

Scalfarotto has then spoken with the French Ambassador in Rome, Christian Masset, to point out our concern about measures to contain the infection in the workplace, particularly for our frontier workers.

The Ambassador has reported that Paris government is examining the protocol that has been recently signed in Italy, considering it as a model for any decisions that may be taken in the coming hours.

“As yesterday in Switzerland, the solutions adopted by our government are an inspiration for our friendly and neighbouring countries. However, it is important that there is timeliness in taking new measures, because time factor is clearly decisive” – commented Scalfarotto.

The Undersecretary, who has the delegation for relations with European countries, will continue to work, in agreement with Minister Di Maio, to monitor the evolution of the situation and to guarantee maximum security for our fellow countrymen, in agreement with the authorities of the other countries.
