On the occasion of the conference «Nuove fonti sull’Integrazione Europea: dal Piano Schuman ai Trattati di Roma» (New Sources on European Integration: from the Schuman Plan to the Treaties of Rome), held in Florence on 5 June at the European University Institute, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation handed over an authenticated copy of the Treaties of Rome to the Historical Archives of the European Union (HAEU).

The conference, which was organised by MAECI together with the European University Institute and the HAEU, brought together scholars and archivists to discuss the new historiographic sources concerning the process of European integration, as recently published by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the volumes of Documents on Italy’s International Policy – freely available on the Foreign Policy and History portal. The study day is part of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ promotional and public diplomacy initiatives, which are aimed at making its historical-archival heritage known and accessible.

As part of the conference, the handing over of an authenticated copy of the Treaties of Rome to the Historical Archives of the European Union was intended to bear witness to and consolidate the dialogue and cooperation between the Historical Archives of the respective institutions, whose collections are complementary for the study and knowledge of the progress of united Europe.
