PRESENTATION EVENT OF THE 24th WEEK OF THE ITALIAN LANGUAGE IN THE WORLD
(Farnesina, 8 October 2024)
On Tuesday, 8 October 2024, at 2:30 p.m., the presentation event for the 24th edition of the Week of the Italian Language in the World (SLIM), the leading international showcase promoting our language globally, will take place at the Farnesina in the International Conference Hall.
The event will be opened by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani (via video link from the Italian School “Cristoforo Colombo” in Buenos Aires). Following this, contributions will be made by Monika Schmutz Kirgöz, Swiss Ambassador to Italy, Donatella Di Pietrantonio, winner of the 2024 Strega Prize, Massimo Bray, Director General of the Treccani Institute, Adriano Monti Buzzetti, President of the Centre for Books and Reading, Fabio del Giudice, Director General of the Italian Publishers Association, Elena Pasoli, Director of the Bologna Children’s Book Fair, Silvia Tatti, President of the Association of Italianists, and Alessandro De Pedys, Director General for Public and Cultural Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
Launched in 2001, the Week of the Italian Language in the World is organised annually by the diplomatic-consular network and the Italian Cultural Institutes in cooperation with traditional language promotion partners (Ministry of Education, Ministry of University and Research, Ministry of Culture, Swiss Embassy, Accademia della Crusca, Cepell, CGIE, Italian-speaking Broadcasting Community, RAI, Dante Alighieri Society, and Treccani).
In a year of particular importance for the international profile of Italian publishing – marked by Italy’s participation as Guest of Honour at the International Book Fairs in Tunis, Warsaw, and Frankfurt – the 2024 edition will focus on the theme “Italian and Books: The World Between the Lines”.
Journalists, photographers and cameramen interested in attending may apply for accreditation by sending a request by Monday 7 October at 3:00 p.m. to accreditamentostampa@esteri.it (tel. 06 3691 3432 – 3078, 8210 or 8573), attaching the following:
For representatives of Italian press organisations:
- copy of an identity document;
- letter of assignment from the newspaper of affiliation or – in the absence of the latter – copy of professional identity card.
For representatives of foreign press organisations, not accredited at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
- copy of an identity document;
- letter from the newspaper of affiliation;
- Verbal note of the Embassy in Rome of the country of the press organisation represented.
For representatives of foreign press already accredited at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the request must be sent with a copy of an identity document attached.
Accredited press may access the Farnesina through the main entrance on the left-hand side from 1:30 to 2:00 p.m.
Submitting the above-mentioned personal data means authorising the use thereof in accordance with Italian Legislative Decree no. 196 of 30 June 2003 and the GDPR (EU Regulation 2016/679) by the Directorate General for Public and Cultural Diplomacy of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the data controller, for strictly professional purposes and/or purposes related to the performance of the event in question.
