Pilar Toledo Verdú, a young woman from Alicante, and Domenico Demoro, an Italian national living in Seville are the two winners of the competition entitled ‘Prepara il tuo futuro-giovani talenti della cucina italiana’ (‘Prepare your future – young talents of Italian cuisine’). Promoted ed by the Italian Embassy in Spain, the competition was organized in cooperation with the Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Spain and the ALMA International School of Italian Cuisine. The winners were chosen after a final cook-off that took place yesterday at the Kitchen Club cookery school in Madrid, by a jury presided over by the Italian ambassador, Stefano Sannino, and including two-star Michelin chef, Ramón Freixa, the coordinator of Elle Gourmet Spain, Cristina Altozano and chef and director of education at ALMA, Matteo Berti.
The winners will now have the opportunity to take part in a training programme at ALMA, an international centre of excellence for Italian cuisine, followed by a training period in the 3-Michelin star restaurant ‘Piazza Duomo’ owned by renowned Italian chef Enrico Crippa, and the 2-Michelin star restaurant ‘La Madia’, owned by another renowned Italian chef, Pino Cuttaia. The ‘Prepara il tuo futuro-giovani talenti della cucina italiana’ competition marked the end of a cycle of activities organised by the Italian embassy with the ‘Prepara il tuo futuro’ project as part of the “ITmakEs Food& Wine” initiative launched last November with a competition on Italian wines for young sommeliers, who will start a training course at ALMA next May.
