An unprecedented exhibition on Etruscan archaeology titled “Le lieu céleste. Les Etrusques et leurs dieux – Le sanctuaire fédéral d’Orvieto” opened today at the National Museum of History and Art (MNHA) in Luxembourg. It is scheduled to run from16 March to 2 September 2018.
Organised under the High Patronage of the President of the Italian Republic and of the Grand Duke of Luxembourg, the exhibition was set up by the Italian Embassy in close cooperation with the Associazione Campo della Fiera – Onlus,
the Foundation of the Cassa di Risparmio of the City of Orvieto, and the Superintendence for Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape of Umbria.
The exhibition focuses on the findings of the excavations in the Campo della Fiera of Orvieto that began in 2000 under the direction of Prof Simonetta Stopponi and that have unearthed an extraordinary archaeological complex covering a surface of five hectares and featuring several temples, a Via Sacra (Sacred Road) and a large space reserved for votive offerings.
Through the archaeological structures and the 1,200 objects exhibited (statuettes, earthenware, reliefs and pottery), visitors can fully immerge in the cultural, religious and aesthetic universe of the Etruscan civilization.
