The Ambassador of Italy to the U.S., Armando Varricchio, just concluded a mission in the State of Texas, where he visited Dallas, Wichita Falls and Austin. His journey has confirmed the excellent relations between the U.S. (Texas in particular) and Italy. “Cooperation in the field of security and the military, as well as in the cultural sector, and the very strong economic relations are the pillars of a solid, energetic relationship that continues to grow. The presence of Italian companies and start-ups at the SXSW Festival in Austin is further evidence to the excellent state of the economic relations between the two countries,” said the Ambassador.
When in Dallas, Ambassador Varricchio was a guest speaker at an event organized by the World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth. He also visited some of the city’s artistic and cultural institutions, including the Bush Presidential Library and Museum, the 6th Floor Museum, and the Dallas Museum of Arts, which has recently renewed an agreement for the loan of some Italian works of art, including Etruscan artifacts. Ambassador Varrichio also met Doug Parker, the CEO of American Airlines, which connects the U.S. to Italy with several direct flights from Dallas and many other U.S. cities. Stopping in Wichita Falls, the Italian Ambassador together with Military Attache’, Gen. Luca Gregoretti, visited the U.S. Sheppard Air Force Base, where a contingent of Italian pilots is stationed to take part in the Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training Programme (ENJJPT). Moving to Austin, Ambassador Varricchio visited the Italian stand at the SXSW Festival, which is the most popular and iconic music, cinema and start-up event in the U.S. Over 100,000 visitors from 75 countries attend SXSW every year. Adam’s Hand, Digital Mosaic and Tactile Robots were among the Italian start-ups participating at the Festival, together with 15 groups selected by the Italian Music Industry Federation (FIMI). “It is true that also in the United States, home to scientific and technological innovation, the presence of Italian competitive and highly qualified – confirms the level of excellence and dynamism reached by the Italian entrepreneurial sector,” said Ambassador Varricchio.
