eID: the experimental issue of the eID card kicks off in three European cities

At 10:30 a.m. on 20 September, the Italian Embassy in Vienna will host the presentation – also opened to the press – of the experimental phase of the issue of the Electronic ID Card (“eID”) for Italian residents residing abroad. The experimentation will be carried out in three pilot consular offices (Athens, Nice and Vienna) and will subsequently be progressively extended to other European consular offices, thus enabling Italian citizens listed with the AIRE (Registry of Italians Residing Abroad) in the consular districts of the three Consulates to request an appointment for the issue of the “eID”.

The presentation to the press, coordinated by the Director General for Italians Abroad, Luigi Maria Vignali, with the sponsorship of the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato, will offer an opportunity to give a detailed description of the technical specifications of the eID, as well as of the advantages for our fellow citizens and the way they can request one.
