Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Marina Sereni, welcomed to the Farnesina, Lamberto Zannier, OSCE High Commisioner on National Minorities. The meeting focused on the state of the art of activites of the office of the High Commisioner, one of the four independent OSCE (Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe) authorities, which has the mandate to prevent and mitigate potential or current crises stemming from inter-ethnic tensions or conflicts, or between a State and its national minorities.
The Deputy Minister took the opportunity to call Mr Zannier’s attention on the full support Italy grants to the important work carried out by the High Commisioner in areas such as the Balkans, Ukraine and the Baltic Countries, within the “central role played by OSCE, due to its overarching concept of security, its inclusive approach and the breadth of its membership.” Within this framework, Sereni confirmed Italy’s full support to the Albanian Presidency of the Organization for the year 2020, which represents a “vote of full confidence in the stability in the Western Balkans.”
