ItalyStayStrong: fundraising of the Italian Embassy in USA and Issnaf

The Embassy of Italy in Washington and the Italian Scientist and Scholars in North America Foundation (Issnaf) have launched the #ItalyStayStrong fundraising campaign through the GoFundMe crowdfunding platform. The money will be donated to three frontline medical and research centres fighting Coronavirus. The centres chosen are the Lazzaro Spallanzani National Institute for Infectious Diseases in Rome, the Luigi Sacco Hospital in Milan and Cotugno Hospital in Naples.

“We are grateful to the United States and to all the American citizens who in these dramatic hours have decided to show their solidarity with Italy. – said Ambassador Armando Varricchio – A gesture of friendship that will remain etched in our memory, a testimony to the strength of the bond that unites our democracies”. “We are pleased to collaborate with ISSNAF, which works daily to support the Italian research community in the United States and create synergies with their American counterparts,” he added.

“As members of the Italian community – stressed Cinzia Zuffada, President of ISSNAF – our encouragement and solidarity thoughts are addressed to all those fighting against the spread of Covid-19 in Italy and the United States. Now more than ever, our network can play a fundamental role in spreading this campaign and support it generously”.

The Italian Embassy underlines that Italy and the United States are facing an unprecedented challenge. Italy was one of the first countries affected by the Coronavirus pandemic and was seriously injured. The United States – the Administration, the private sector, non-profit organizations and numerous American friends – have shown closeness and unity of purpose during the emergency and provided support to Italy and the Italian people.
