“Reflections on Earth seen from space” is the title of the webinar organised on Tuesday May 5th by the Italian Cultural Institute in Los Angeles, in cooperation with the Institutes of New York, Washington D.C. and San Francisco. The journalist Maria Teresa Cometto from New York will lead a conversation with Cinzia Zuffada, Associate Chief Scientist of NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California.
The meeting, in partnership with the Italian Scientists and Scholars in North America Foundation (ISSNAF), is part of a series of virtual seminars promoted by Italian Cultural Institutes to keep a great offer and to propose a variety of events in compliance with security and social distancing measures.
Ms Zuffada, a graduate in electronic engineering from the University of Pavia and part of NASA laboratory since 1992, will explain how new sustainable remote sensing techniques help us to understand the dynamic processes of terrestrial hydrology and to preserve complex ecosystems such as wetlands. She will also talk about her journey from an Italian small town to NASA laboratory in Southern California and about the process of developing new measurement techniques, made possible thanks to technological innovations.
In winter 2019, Cinzia Zuffada worked as a Science Fellow at the American Embassy in Rome, lending her experience in remote sensing of the Earth to catalyse collaborations between Italy and the United States. Since December 2017 she has also been a member of the board of directors of the ISSNAF, of which she is currently Chair.
