As part of the new cultural program #vivilitaliainindonesia, following the health emergency from Covid-19, the Italian Cultural Institute of Jakarta on Saturday, June 20 presents Points of intersection, a webinar dedicated to the Italian artist Filippo Sciascia and his works. A conversation about science, anthropology, and culture through Sciascia’s artistic creations.
Filippo Sciascia, born in Sicily in Palma di Montichiaro, moved to the United States at a noticeably young age, before returning to Italy, to Florence, to continue his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts, where he graduated. He currently lives and works in Bali, Indonesia.
In 2011 he exhibited at the Italian Pavilion in the Artisti Italiani nel Mondo (Italian Artists in the World) section of the 54th Biennale of Venice. In 2018 he participated in the group exhibition Il Grande Arcipelago, organised by the Pistoletto Foundation in Bali. Finally, in 2019 he represented Italian contemporary art during the Giornata del Contemporaneo (The Contemporary Day) with the exhibition Primitive mornings.
Sciascia’s works explore the relationship between art and science and the mysteries of the universe through painting techniques and the original use of materials, from metal to natural pigments.
From Lux Lumina to Primitive mornings the predominant element is always light. “Light the base of everything, the light that illuminates represents the desire for balance in the world, it is the symbol of a discovery. In my paintings the anxiety to discover has pervaded all my work,” explains Sciascia.
