Washington DC (15 September 2021) – Last night, an event was held on “Sustainability and Energy Transition: Inclusion as the way forward to COP26” in the wonderful setting of Villa Firenze, the official residence of the Italian Ambassador in Washington DC. The event was organised by “Out in Energy”, an LGBTQI+ organisation and member of the Atlantic Council composed of public and private sector professionals operating in the energy sector.
The discussion, also attended by British Ambassador Karen Pierce and Kathryn Huff, Acting Assistant Secretary at the US Department of Energy, focused on the importance of inclusion and diversity in the energy sector to ensure a sustainable energy transition.
“The world is at a critical juncture in the fight against climate change to achieve the Agency 2030 goals,” said Ambassador Mariangela Zappia in welcoming the guests. “Our efforts are bound to fail if we do not involve all social actors in this process and we strongly believe that diversity is essential to ensure sustainable and effective leadership.”
