Rapid molecular Covid tests: a joint Italian-French agreement

Under an agreement between the innovative French start-up “Loop Dee Science” and “Marigo Italia”, a leading company in the laboratory diagnostics sector, it will now be possible to carry out rapid molecular swab tests in Italy.

The collaboration agreement concluded between the two companies at the headquarters in Caen (Normandy), in the presence of the Italian Ambassador in France, provides for the exclusive distribution in Italy of the innovative “LoopDeeLab” device, based on the RT Lamp molecular biology technology developed by the transalpine start-up and validated by the Haute Autorité de Sante, which enables the detection of covid in an individual in just 45 minutes, with the reliability of a molecular test, therefore superior to that of rapid antigenic tests.

“The collaboration between “Loop Dee Science” and “Marigo Italia” – said Teresa Castaldo, Ambassador of Italy in France – is yet another important milestone in the many instances of collaboration between Italy and France in the fight against Covid-19, in which institutions and companies are involved on the same front. This collaboration is also part of exchange programmes between innovative companies on both sides of the Alps, with the active support of Italian institutions in France. Thanks also to this effort, the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors feature advanced industrial integration between Italy and France, as an important segment of the trade between our two countries, in both directions and with very promising growth prospects for the future”.

“Loop Dee Science” is an innovative start-up in the bio-tech sector, selected by the French Government as part of its “Stratégie Innovation Santé 2030“, providing for the investment of 7 billion euros over five years to support innovative companies in the health sector. “Loop Dee Science”, in particular, will benefit from funds amounting to 1.6 million euros, with the aim of supporting the development of one of the most promising startups in the country, which is also particularly active in the fight against Covid-19.

“Niccolò Manniello, head of Marigo Group’s pharmaceutical division, commented: “The agreement with Loop Dee Science allows us to promote the adoption, in Italy as well, of an extremely versatile and effective solution for Covid-19 diagnostics. Thanks to its small size – the device fits in the palm of a hand – and its rapidity of execution, the diagnostic kit is an extremely interesting solution for facilities such as pharmacies, airports, stations or schools, a fast and reliable test for Covid-19 screening “.
