The Italian Ambassador to Finland, Sergio Pagano, attended the handover ceremony at the Meyer shipyard, in Turku, of the “Costa Toscana”, the new flagship of the Costa Crociere cruise fleet and sister ship of the “Costa Smeralda”, which was also launched in the port city in south-western Finland two years ago.

Powered by liquefied natural gas, the most advanced technology currently available in the maritime sector to reduce emissions, the new flagship is a tribute first and foremost to Tuscany and Italy in general, thanks to a refined Italian style that is also reflected in the furnishings, lighting, fabrics and accessories, all made in Italy. The “Costa Toscana” is a true travelling “smart city”, with 2,663 cabins that can accommodate 6,730 passengers. With its 337 metres in length, 42 metres width, and 185,000 gross tonnes, the ship is environmentally sustainable and is therefore equipped with numerous cutting-edge technological innovations (from desalination and intelligent energy consumption systems to 100% separate waste collection and recycling).

During the handover ceremony, which was also attended by Costa Crociere’s General Manager Mario Zanetti and the CEO of Meyer Turku Tim Meyer, Ambassador Pagano welcomed the operation, which is both commercial and industrial and which bears witness to both the excellent potential of collaboration between Italian and Finnish operators and the great ability to attract “Made in Italy” brand products, also in terms of their technological innovation, design and attention to environmental sustainability.
