The Italian Embassy in Washington, DC and the United States Department of State will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Fulbright Programme with a roundtable discussion entitled “The Contribution of Fulbright Scholars to Covid-19”, on the 160th anniversary of Italy-US bilateral diplomatic relations.

Since its inception in 1948, the Programme has provided a great contribution to fostering and strengthening relations between Italy and the United States, and today it is of fundamental importance in enhancing the extraordinary relationships that unite the people of our two nations.

Since the establishment, in 1948, of the US-Italy Fulbright Commission more than 14,000 US and Italian students, researchers and scholars have received Fulbright grants in the other country.

The round table will be addressed by the Italian Ambassador Mariangela Zappia and the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs, Matthew Lussenhop, after which the Fulbright Fellows will give presentations illustrating their significant contributions to the fight against Covid-19 and how they have faced and overcome the social, cultural and economic challenges of the pandemic. The moderator is Paola Sartorio, Executive Director of the USA-Italy Fulbright Commission.
