Starting January 24 next, Belgrade’s Yugoslav Film Archive is to host the first edition of CinemaItaliaOggi Balcani. Set to become an annual event, the film festival will showcase the best in latest Italian cinema releases. Ten critically acclaimed Italian movies from the past three years are due for screening until January 29. In February, a selection of these movies will be screened at the Montenegro Film Archive in Podgorica, the Cultural Centre of Novi Sad and the Cultural Centre of Niš.
Promoted by the Italian Cultural Centre in Belgrade and boasting the collaboration of Cinecittà and the Yugoslav Film Archive and the support of the Italian Embassies in Belgrade and Podgorica, the festival aims to promote Italy’s latest productions in Serbia and Montenegro. The inaugural screening at CinemaItaliaOggi Balcani features director Elisa Amoruso’s Maledetta primavera (2020). Follow-up screenings include Guido Chiesa’s Cambio tutto! (2020), Jonas Carpignano’s A Chiara (2021), Leonardo Di Costanzo’s Ariaferma (2021), Phaim Bhuiyan’s Bangla (2019), Alessando Cassigoli and Casey Kauffman’s Californie (2021), Hleb Papou Il legionario (2021), Pietro Castellitto’s I predatori (2020), Francesco Bruni’s Cosa sarà (2020) and Guido Chiesa’s Una notte da dottore (2021).
