The Italian Cultural Institute in Amsterdam has organised, alongside New Phoenix Ensemble, a meeting between art and music, discovering talented female artists that had to struggle to have success on the artistic stage of their era. The event, to be held at the Institute on 7 April (7:00 pm) is named “Donne” (Women) and will focus on Eduarda Emilia Maino (1930-2004), known as Dadamaino.

The figure of the artist will be presented by art historian Isabella Santangelo. Dadamaino was an avantgarde artist of post World War 2, very active in the Netherlands, to the point that her stage name derived from a typo of her name by a Dutch publisher.

During the event, the New Phoenix Ensamble – featuring clarinet player Letizia Elsa Maulà, violin and viola player Ian de Jong and violoncello player Sylvia Campini – will perform tunes by Francesca Caccini, Ethel Smyth, Rosy Wertheim.
