A special staging of the opera “La Bohème”, produced by the Lviv Theatre with 140 Ukrainian artists and stage crew workers, was performed last 23 August at the Gran Teatro of Torre del Lago within the framework of the Puccini Festival. The performance confirmed that music is a medium of peace and solidarity that made it possible to support artists from a country at war. At the event, homage was also paid to Ukrainian soprano Solomija Krusceniski, citizen of Viareggio, on the 150th anniversary of her birth, also celebrated by UNESCO.

The initiative, sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, has a high symbolic value and contributes to the recovery of the renowned Lviv Theatre of Opera and Ballet, one of the city’s historical and cultural landmarks which was forced to suspend its activities because of the war and to send many of its artists to the front.

The opera, which was attended by representatives of the Italian Embassy and the Italian Cultural Institute in Kiev, was broadcast in live streaming. The event was also made possible thanks to the sponsorship of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio of Lucca.
