“Encuentro con gigantes” will be presented during a Master Conference scheduled for 25 January at the Italian Cultural Institute of Mexico City and organised by the Institute, the Embassy, Fundación Marso and CIAD-CONACyT.
The project promotes photo-documentation of marine giants (particularly in the Sea of Cortez region, where some of Mexico’s largest islands are concentrated, such as Isla Tiburón and Isla Angel de la Guarda – home to giant marine cetaceans such as the blue whale, fin whale and sperm whale) in the awareness of how the observation and study of whales can help understand what strategies need to be adopted to protect the ocean and the giants that inhabit it.
Speakers will include Silvia Gómez Jiménez, academic and project coordinator; Cristina Fossi, researcher at the University of Siena; and Giuseppe Notarbartolo, who will speak on global whale habitat protection.
