The Ambassador of Italy in Türkiye, Giorgio Marrapodi, the Director General for Italian Citizens Abroad, Luigi Maria Vignali, and the Consul of Italy in Izmir, Valerio Giorgio, have inaugurated the new offices of the Consulate of Italy in Izmir at the Heris Tower, in the presence of the Prefect Selim Kosger and the Mayor of the Municipality, Tunç Soyer.
The approximately 1,500 Italian citizens residing in Izmir, who have been present in the Aegean region since the time of the Maritime Republics and have become more numerous thanks to the Italian companies that settled in Turkey in the 1990s, will now have at their disposal more modern and functional offices, where they will also be able to apply for electronic ID as part of the pilot project for the issuance of non-EU electronic identity cards.
The Consulate will thus be able to better continue its cooperation with the Izmir COMITES (Committee of Italians Abroad), the Italian Primary and Infant School and the Carlo Goldoni Cultural Centre, which are committed to spreading the Italian language.
Relations between Izmir and Italy have been reinforced by yet another important milestone that will also benefit the more than 15,000 Turkish citizens who each year apply for visas for tourism, business and study purposes.
