The Italian Embassy in Dakar has organised a series of seminars and events on plant biology to promote bilateral scientific cooperation.

Two experts from the University of Florence’s Department of Plant Biology have taken part in the initiative: Prof. Renato Fani, whose studies focus on the genetics and ecology of bacteria, and Giulia Semenzato from the Laboratory of Microbial and Molecular Evolution.

Three events have been held in as many universities: Cheickh Anta Diop in Dakar, Sine Saloum “Elhadj Ibrahima Niass Ussein” in Kaolack and Gaston Berger in Saint-Louis. The Italian scholars have been able to illustrate their activities to local lecturers and researchers and have hypothesised collaborations as well as proposing partnership opportunities between universities. Such invitations have raised considerable interest among Senegalese scholars.

With this scientific diplomacy initiative, the Italian Embassy has confirmed its desire to advance and strengthen collaborations between the Italian and Senegalese systems of teaching, research and innovation.
