The Consulate General of Italy in Boston, the Italian Embassy in Riga and the Italian Embassy in Tunis have won the second edition of the “Capitals of Italian Creativity in the World” (Festival of Italian Creativity) competition, an initiative launched by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation with the aim of encouraging and enhancing the ability of Italy’s network of embassies and consulates abroad to design projects proposals for integrated promotional activities. The first edition of the initiative was won by the Consulate of Detroit and the Italian Cultural Institute of Melbourne.

The winning projects are:

The “Boston.IT” project by the Consulate General of Italy in Boston, which is an integrated and cultural promotion programme and a “trade fair” event inspired by creativity as lightness, speed, accuracy, visibility, multiplicity and coherence. Designed to be permanently rooted in the territory, the Festival aims to involve prestigious local and Italian players in its activities, which will include presentations, talks, round tables, and discussion panels involving academics, scientists, researchers, opinion leaders, executives and business managers, and will cover topics ranging from technological innovation to architecture and design, as well as cuisine and sport.

The “Italy is young” project presented by the Italian Embassy in Riga, which proposes an unprecedented tale of Italian under-35 talent: a ten-week festival that tells the story of today’s creative Italy through a series of public talks. The initiative stands out for the plurality of creative and productive sectors represented, from fashion to music, from cinema to innovation, from literature to sport. “Italy aspires to become a country for young people”, underlined the Italian Ambassador to Latvia, Alessandro Monti. “Italy is young will provide an opportunity to communicate this vision to the Latvian public. Italian young men and women have something to say: their testimonies show that creativity and Italianness belong together”.

The “IN SITU – TUNISI” project by the Italian Embassy in Tunis, in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute and in synergy with a group of local institutions and actors, which aims to enhance the historical and cultural heritage shared between the two countries, so as to deepen contemporary creative exchange. The programme, consisting of a wide range of activities that cover sectors such as craftsmanship and design, cinema, dance and theatre, architecture, fashion, and sport, aims to stimulate reflection on the connections between energy, culture, roots, and innovation in order to enhance the extraordinary soft power that tradition, creativity, design, and entrepreneurship bring to Italy.

Due to the interest shown in this second edition, a third edition of the “Capitals of Italian Creativity in the World” initiative will again take place in 2024, with the aim of creating new showcases for Italy and Italian know-how, offering integrated promotional activities involving economic, cultural and scientific aspects within the framework of the growth and cultural diplomacy actions promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
