The Community of Italian origin in Paraguay celebrated the “Italian Immigrant Day”, as provided for by the law enacted by the Congress of Paraguay in May 2019, promoted in the framework of the conclusion of the bilateral treaty on the mutual recognition of dual citizenship, signed on 26 February 2019.
The event is part of the initiatives planned to mark the 150th anniversary of diplomatic and commercial relations between Italy and Paraguay.
The official event at Piazza Italia was attended by local authorities, representatives of Italian associations and the Italian Embassy.
In the historical location of the river port of Asunción, a bronze statue dedicated to the many Italian immigrants who arrived in Paraguay in the first half of the 19th century was unveiled, in recognition of the important role played by our compatriots in the socio-economic and cultural development of the South American country.
Also present at the event were Trade and Industry Minister Javier Jiménez, Tourism Minister Angie Duarte, and Asunción Mayor Oscar Rodríguez.’
