On 26 March, Palazzo Borromeo hosted the event “Jubilee 2025 and Tourism of Roots: synergies and opportunities for rediscovering and enhancing local territories“. The event was organised by the Italian Embassy to the Holy See in collaboration with the Directorate General for Italians Abroad and Migration Policies of the Italian Foreign Ministry, led by Minister Plenipotentiary Luigi Maria Vignali. The discussion focused on the opportunities that the Holy Year presents for the entire Italian territory, particularly in relation to the “Tourism of Roots” project, strongly supported by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani.

The Italian Foreign Ministry’s commitment to promoting the rediscovery of Italy’s heritage among Italians abroad and Italian-descendant communities was highlighted in speeches by Antonio Corsi, Advisor to Minister Tajani for the promotion of cultural and musical activities within Italian communities abroad and Mayor of Sgurgola, as well as Gianluigi Tombolini, Advisor for tourism promotion and Mayor of Numana.

Representing the Holy See was Monsignor Graziano Borgonovo, Undersecretary of the Dicastery for Evangelisation, while the Italian Episcopal Conference was represented by Don Michele Gianola, Undersecretary and Director of the Pastoral Office for Leisure, Tourism, and Sport. Speakers representing different regions of Italy, from North to South, shared various experiences of territorial enhancement and illustrated the “Tourism of Roots” initiative in diverse geographical contexts. These included: Andrea Maria Antonini, Regional Councillor of the Marche Region; Agostino Miozzo, Advisor to the President of the Calabria Region and Commissioner for Jubilee 2025 Reception; and the Mayors of Aquileia, Emanuele Zorino, Caramanico Terme, Franco Parone, San Romano in Garfagnana, Raffaella Mariani, and Sant’Angelo dei Lombardi, Rosanna Repole.

The event was moderated by ANSA Vatican journalist Manuela Tulli.
