Exhibitions, Initiatives and Communication

The Ministry has a documentary and bibliographic heritage of great value, consisting of kilometres of documents and tens of thousands of books that make it possible to reconstruct the history of national diplomacy, Italy’ foreign policy and its external projection.

This heritage, which until recently has been used mainly for historical and academic research, is now enhanced through the organisation of exhibitions for a wider public, focusing on specific moments or aspects of the history of national foreign policy. The exhibitions, which can be visited at the Foreign Ministry’s headquarters or at the premises of the organisations working in collaboration with the Foreign Ministry’s Historical Archives, have been partly digitised. All initiatives are promoted by means of a regular newsletter.

In a constant endeavour to reach non-specialist users and share this extraordinary heritage with them, the documents of the Historical Archives are also “narrated” through the Foreign Ministry’s social channels, with the production of podcasts, video bites, as well as Facebook, Instagram and X posts.
