On the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio, chaired the meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Member Countries of the Central European Initiative (CEI).

Minister Di Maio, who holds the rotating presidency of the CEI, in his opening remarks emphasised the need to continue promoting and renewing the CEI’s actions in line with the spirit of the Declaration adopted in Trieste last 12 June. The Ministers then had a constructive exchange of views on tightening coordination between the CEI’s 17 Member Countries on the issues contained in the UN’s agenda such as the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the development of policies for young people. Italy, besides having been a founding member of CEI over 30 years ago, is also one of its major financial contributors. The Initiative stretches over a geographic area that is strategic for our foreign policy, as it includes most of Central and Eastern Europe and the Balkans.

Il Ministro degli Affari Esteri e della Cooperazione Internazionale, Luigi Di Maio, ha presieduto a New York, a margine dell’Assemblea Generale delle Nazioni Unite, la riunione dei Ministri degli Esteri dei Paesi membri dell’Iniziativa Centro Europea (InCE).

Il ministro, Presidente di turno dell’InCE, nel suo indirizzo di apertura ha sottolineato la necessità di proseguire l’azione di valorizzazione e rinnovamento dell’InCE di cui allo spirito della Dichiarazione adottata a Trieste lo scorso 12 giugno. I ministri hanno quindi avuto un costruttivo scambio di vedute sul rafforzamento del coordinamento tra i 17 Paesi membri InCE su temi dell’agenda onusiana, come l’attuazione dell’Agenda 2030 e lo sviluppo di politiche dedicate ai giovani. L’Italia, oltre che fondatore 30 anni or sono, è principale finanziatore dell’InCE. L’Iniziativa si estende geograficamente su un’area strategica per la nostra politica estera, ricomprendendo gran parte dell’Europa centro-orientale e balcanica.
