“I wish to express the profound condolences and solidarity of the Italian government and people to the citizens and institutions of Somalia for a cruel act of terrorism that has cost the lives of at least 13 persons. The terrorists will not prevail and will not achieve any objective”. Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Paolo Gentiloni responded to last night’s attack in Mogadishu, claimed by al-Shabaab.
“The Somali people and their leaders”, the minister continued, “are intent on building a peaceful and stable Somalia. Italy considers the national debate for completion of the country’s regionalisation process and the elections planned for 2016 of strategic importance for the nation’s future and they will continue to have our support”.
