Minister of Foreign Affairs Luigi di Maio had a cordial telephone conversation with his counterpart in Iraq, Fouad Hussein. The Iraqi Minister, who assisted Premier Kadhimi during an important mission to the United States, kept Minister Di Maio updated on the outcome of his contacts with the US authorities.
Di Maio reiterated to the interlocutor the historic friendship that binds our two countries and assured the constant Italian commitment to the stability of Iraq, also in the framework of the Global Anti-Daesh Coalition, of which Italy is among the major contributors.
The Minister emphasized the importance of recourse to dialogue as a fundamental tool to deal with the crises in the region.
On the bilateral level, Mr Di Maio recalled the traditional support offered to Iraq through the activities of our Cooperation in many areas, with the aim of contributing to building a better future for Iraqi citizens.
