A videoconference was held this afternoon with the 32 members of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS Small Group, co-chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio, and the US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo.
The virtual meeting allowed those present to reaffirm their support for the Coalition’s efforts to achieve a lasting defeat of ISIS. Minister Di Maio recalled Italy’s unceasing commitment to the fight against terrorism and to support the local populations in Iraq and Syria.
He hoped for further reflection on the possible involvement of the Coalition to defeat ISIS in the West African and Sahel region. Minister Di Maio then confirmed the Italian willingness to host, as soon as conditions permit, the plenary meeting of the 82 members of the Coalition.
