“I wish to express Italy’s solidarity with the Iraqi government, presently engaged in managing a security crisis that involves, first and foremost, its citizens”, stated Minister for Foreign Affairs Emma Bonino, commenting on the outcropping of violence in the Province of Anbar fuelled by Al Qaeda-affiliated militia groups.
“We support the process of reconstruction within the security framework aimed at regional stability, not least within the context of the European Union”, the minister added, stressing the crucial nature of the rule of law and defence of human rights and fundamental freedoms through dialogue inclusive of all the political forces and the civil society.
