Six ministers from the Monti Government, including Giulio Terzi, have signed their names to the World Day of Migrants and Refugees promoted by the Catholic Church and being celebrated on 15 January 2012. The event was presented at a press conference held this morning (10 January), with the announcement being made by the Italian Episcopal Conference spokesperson, Monsignor Domenico Pompili.
In addition to the Foreign Minister, the other ministers supporting the initiative are the Ministers for Integration and International Cooperation, Andrea Riccardi; Relations with the Parliament, Piero Giarda; Community Policies, Enzo Moavero Milanesi; Regional Affairs, Tourism and Sport, Piero Gnudi; and Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies, Mario Catania.
This year, the focus for the World Day celebrations will be Perugia. According to the figures for 2010, in Umbria foreign nationals number 99,849, or over 10% of the resident population of 906,000.
