The Italian Cooperation is working with UNDESA on proposing a series of sideline events during the Rio+20 Conference that deal with development themes and the global processes under way in partnerships with island and mountain nations and for cross-border and water management.
Pledges of €1.5 million
The conference theme is, “A blue economy initiative for marine and coastal conservation in Caribbean, Pacific and Indian Ocean island nations, and the Coral Triangle: integrating coastal adaptation, fisheries, tourism and food security objectives”. A second meeting of High Level Commitment Platform leaders regarding small island nations of the world is planned for 21 June at the Convention Centre.
The event, organised in collaboration with the Global Island Partnership, whose participants will include the heads of state and government of small island countries, will be an opportunity for Italy to announce its pledge of €1.5 million for the second phase of the clean energy project for Small Island Developing States of the Pacific. The initiative is the result of collaboration between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and the Environment.
Amazonia sem fogo – integrated sustainable development model
The third and most important meeting, selected as a national event to take place at Rio Centro, the setting for high-profile negotiations, is called “Innovative approaches toward the actual implementation of the Green Economy: the ”Amazonia sem fogo” integrated sustainable development model”: which aims to contribute to the goals of the green economy through practical policy and methodology lessons in a context of sustainable development and poverty reduction in forest regions.
