Afghanistan: training course for 20 Afghan police officers draws to a close

The third training course for officials and customs officers from the Afghan border police has concluded with a certification-award ceremony. The course, for 30 trainees, took place at the Finance Police training centre in Orvieto and was organised in collaboration with the Farnesina.

Operational issues and international law

The 3-week course covered operational issues and international law subjects already addressed during the first part of the programme, which was conducted by the Grifo Task Force at Camp Arena in Herat.

Subjects covered during the course included monitoring movements of people and goods; combating illegal immigration, smuggling and drugs and arms trafficking; monitoring border security; safeguarding operators; and policing techniques.

This theoretical part of the course included lectures and seminars conducted by experts from academic and diplomatic circles, along with visits to the Dog-Handling Training Centre, the port of Civitavecchia and Fiumicino Airport.

The training course is one of the initiatives envisaged by the long-term Bilateral Partnership and Cooperation Agreement with Afghanistan, which entered into force on 22 April 2013.
