EU Presidency – Italy says stop to food waste with “Siticibo”

The Italian EU Presidency opened with a watchful eye on food waste. Indeed, an important agreement was recently signed with the Food Bank involving the catering companies providing for the Presidency events. Thanks to the Food Bank’s “Siticibo” programme, it will be possible to recover much of what is left over from official delegation dinners and informal meetings.

Recovered food cooked but not served

“Siticibo” recuperates cooked but unserved food, and unused fresh foods such as fruit, vegetables, bread and confectionary from caterers, hotels, hotel and hospital canteens, school cafeterias and stores, to then deliver them only a few hours later to charity cafeterias, family houses and residential communities for the elderly, indigent and chronically ill, and first assistance centres.
