Montreal – The role of music in the Risorgimento, reflections in Canada

What better means than music to spread new ideas of freedom, independence and love of country? The operas written by Giuseppe Verdi between 1842 and 1849 had a strong patriotic component and were received enthusiastically by the public. Offering an occasion for reflection on the subject will be a conference entitled “Music and the reawakening of patriotism in the nations of Europe and the Mediterranean in the 19^th century: the role of music and revolutionary and patriotic movements Italy” at Montreal’s École de musique Vincent-d’Indy (salle Marie-Stéphane – 628, chemin de la Côte-Sainte-Catherine).
