The national council of archaeology of the Albanian Ministry of Culture approved a University of Bologna project for the study an excavation of an important sacred building in the Hellenistic and Roman city of Buthrotum, located in the southern part of the country (ancient Epirus), just a few kilometres from the Greek border. The MFAIC and its Directorate General for Country Promotion assured its support for the excavations, in addition to the contribution of the University of Bologna and its Ravenna campus, which facilitates the participation of the students enrolled in conservation courses.
