In 2015 the number of Austrian tourists to Friuli Venezia Giulia was up 5.6% from the previous year, with a total of almost 398,000 visitors. The Austrian tourism market, together with the general German-speaking segment, represents a strategic target for the Administration of Friuli Venezia Giulia, as well as for its operating branch PromoTurismo FVG, which presented to journalists and tour operators the special edition of “Tiere furlane”, the regional cultural magazine, at Vienna’s MuseumsQuartier. The magazine consists of more than 150 pages completely written in German by Austrian journalists to explore the tastes and expectations of German-speaking tourists. In Vienna Sergio Bolzonello, the Vice President of the Region and Regional Councillor for Tourism and Production Activities, and Italian Ambassador Giorgio Marrapodi stressed that this tourism continues to focus special attention on Friuli Venezia Giulia. As highlighted by Austrian journalists Gisela Hopmueller and Franz Hlavac, coordinated by Enos Costantini, this regions spans from the mountain to the sea, offering food and wine specialties and cultural tours of its villas, towns and cities. A special focus is placed on the Karst region and Trieste, a city that is still “a dream, a constant destination” for Viennese travellers. Friuli Venezia Giulia, said Ambassador Marrapodi, is shown as the Austrians love it, “because it always has something new to offer” in terms of appealing events (especially Barcolana, Pordenonelegge and Mittelfest), high-quality cultural activities, unique food and wine, which especially and increasingly leverage the region’s appeal.
