Venezuela – Italian Cuisine in the World Week celebrated in Venezuela

The Italian Cultural Institute in Caracas has organized the screening of films to celebrate the first Week of Italian Cuisine in the World. The film programme titled “Italian Cuisine on Cinema Screens”, featuring films centred on Italy’s cuisine, will run from Nov. 9 to 30. Ettore Scola’s “La Cena” (1998) [The Dinner] will kick off the film programme, followed by Mimmo Calopresti’s “L’Abbuffata” (2007), Pupi Avati’s  “La cena per farli conoscere” (2006) [A Dinner to Make Them Meet] and Alessandro Piva’s “Pasta nera” (2011). The Week of Italian Cuisine in the World will be celebrated with over 1700 events in 110 countries. This initiative is meant to promote the Italian catering industry and the typical gastronomy across the world to follow up on the fruitful debate on the themes which were successfully developed at Expo Milan 2015 and incorporated into the Milan Charter, namely: quality, sustainability, culture, food safety and security, the right to food, education, identity, territory, biodiversity. The first Week forms part of the actions developed to promote the agro-food sector and Italian cuisine, initiated in March 2015 during Expo Milan with the first forum on Italian cuisine, followed by the signing of the “Food Act”, the first agreement between institutions and the world of gastronomy. The Week will include a total of 173 conferences, meet-the-chef events and debates on Italian culinary traditions; 98 promotional events with local Italian restaurateurs and trade fairs; 151 cooking shows, cooking lessons and master classes; 334 tasting events and thematic dinners; 23 competitions and awards for top quality Italian cuisine; 32 technical, scientific and academic seminars; 390 film and documentary screenings, theatre shows and concerts related to food; 32 design, art and photography exhibitions on cooking and communication initiatives on TV, the press and social media.
