Seoul hosted the Korea-Italy Bilateral Symposium on Personalized Medicine, organised by the Italian Embassy and ICE, the Italian Trade Agency in Seoul. The Symposium was opened by the Deputy-Minister of Health of the Republic of Korea, Dr. Ganglip Kim, and by the Italian Ambassador to Korea, Marco della Seta. Korean and Italian experts in biomedical research participated in the event, including Prof. Francesco Profumo, currently President of the Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo and former Minister of Education and University, and Prof. Ruggero De Maria, President of the Alleanza Contro il Cancro and of the Human Genetic Foundation. During the works of the Symposium, innovative approaches for the prevention and treatment in oncology, rare diseases and neuro-degenerative diseases were discussed.
Among the Italian scientists who participated there were members of the National Reasearch Council (CNR), the Istituto Superiore di Sanita, the University of Turin, the Istituto Tumori di Napoli, Milan’s Istituto Farmacologico Mario Negri and San Raffaele Hospital based in Milan. Top level Korean experts who participated represented the Korean Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), Cbs Bioscience, the National Cancer Center, the Korean Advanced Institute for Science and Technology (KAIST), the Samsung Medical Center and Inje University.
The topics discussed included nanomedicine, innovative immunotherapy, biomarker precision medicine, stem-cell genetic engineering, precision oncological medicine based on data-bank management, and farmaco-genomics.
