The Italian Cultural Institute in Brussels hosted a lecture by Ernesto Assante on 15 October to celebrate the 18th Week of the Italian Language in the World. A journalist and a music critic. Assante writes for dailies and magazines – La Repubblica, L’Espresso and Rolling Stones. His lecture, which was entitled “Dal 45 giri ai social. La canzone italiana del nuovo millennio” ( From the 45s to social media. Italian pop songs in the new millennium) showed the way the scenario has changed in the new millennium and especially so in the last three years. An entirely new generation of composers and singers has taken centre stage. They all have found their distinctive voice in between rapping and songwriting and won their new fans via the social networks.
