Seminars, conferences, meetings with chefs and cooking classes, tastings and also film screenings, concerts and photographic exhibitions are all the events organized by the Italian Consulate General and the Italian Cultural Institute in Los Angeles to celebrate the Italian Cuisine Week in the World. The rich calendar of events includes a conference on the Table of Longevity; an evening event dedicated to Apulian olive oil; a seminar on wine and Leonardo da Vinci as part of the celebrations of the 500th anniversary of the death of the Tuscan genius, and a cooking class with the Ambassador of Taste, Chef Barbara Pollastrini. The billboard of events also includes opening the exhibition titled “Food in the Drawings of Federico Fellini” and the presentation of a book of Creole-Italian recipes. At all of these events, the organizers offered prosecco DOCG (Denomination of Controlled and Guaranteed Origin) from the Hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, which have recently been included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. One of the most important events scheduled is the evening at the Italian Cultural Institute dedicated to cinema and food which opened with the screening of the film ‘Fists in the Pocket’ (‘I pugni in tasca’), to pay homage to film director Marco Bellocchio, whose latest film ‘The Traitor’ (Il Traditore) was chosen as Italy’s official candidate for the 2020 Academy Awards. The screening will follow with the award ceremony of the Los Angeles Creativity Award, conferred for the first time for a television series onto Fiorella and Maria Elena Congedo, acknowledging the Italian excellence in all creative sectors. They are the producers of an animation television series called “Trulli Tales. Le avventure dei Trullalleri” that, in 52 episodes of 11 minutes, tell the adventures of four little heroes who attend the Cooking and Magic School in a village of Trulli, under a centuries-old olive tree, and protect the precious book of Nonnatrulla’s secret recipes (that opens with a drop of magic oil) against the attacks of the mean and bungling Copperpot. It is a world in which the wands are kitchen utensils and everything is green, mechanical or magical and a cooking recipe is a recipe of life. With this series for children, Fiorella and Maria Elena Congedo, the Ambassadors of Italian creativity and of our best culinary tradition in the world, have exported the magic of Apulia abroad. Lastly, as a preview to the 2020 celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Federico Fellini (1920-2020), Los Angeles will host the exhibition “Food in the Drawings of Federico Fellini”, with the sketches that the great film director made on paper or cloth table napkins throughout his career, mainly taken from his diary “Libro dei sogni” (“Book of Dreams”).
